ARTIST STATEMENT

My Prints and Paintings are inspired by the social problems that I see or read about each day. The mission with my work is to open up the minds of viewers to problems that we are aware of but avoid. My work stems from my Palestinian heritage and the issues surrounding the Palestine and Israeli culture while also captivating the beauty of the country. I comment on the conflicts between the two cultures and showcase what is actually happening rather than what is being heard or said.

To capture the interest of audiences, I create well-balanced compositions that are dynamic yet calming.  My paintings tend to gravitate towards warm tones that create an inviting feeling to an uninviting scene. My prints incorporate forms that are complex and flow throughout the entire piece. I enjoy producing a perfectly peaceful composition while incorporating elements and objects that are not. Another central theme throughout my art deals with paths, roads, and the destruction of scenes. I am intrigued by complex and twisted objects that I do not quite understand, influenced by how we act as a society and what influences our choices.

My main goal is not to change my audience’s opinions, but to teach and encourage them to think about issues that we as a society avoid and do not confront. The viewer should think past first glance and question what they are looking at because we live in a time where headlines are thought as the truth and stories are overlooked. These elements of my art and ideas help create a standstill of the hectic society that we live in so that we can take it all in.
